The Animal Flower Cave is one of the main attractions in Barbados. Located at the northern most end of the island the Animal Flower Cave offers an incredible view of the rugged Atlantic side of the island and on occasion you might even spot a whale or two.
The Animal Flower Cave tours are open from 9.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m. The entrance fee of BD$20.00 is well worth it. Descending into the cave you are immediately aware of the beauty of Mother Nature. The natural pools of water allow for swimming (it is about eight feet deep) with peep holes to the outside. The name comes from the seasonal sea anemones which open and close with the waves. There are local vendors selling their wares of jewelry and other pieces of locally made crafts.
The restaurant at the Animal Flower Cave offers good food at reasonable prices and our favourites were the catch of the day, shrimp salad and the rotis. The staff are very friendly and efficient and made sure we were well looked after.
Animal Flower Cave is operated by Manny Ward and his lovely wife who have numerous years in the restaurant business on the island. They actually live close by and had no problem with us lingering over a bottle of wine well after the restaurant had closed for the day so that we could continue enjoying the spectacular scenery before us.
It is quite a drive to the caves but this is one attraction that is worth the time. For further information please visit the website http://www.animalflowercave.com/
